Forbes Sheep Sale Market Report

25/09/2018

Total Yarding – 30,550hd      Lambs – 19,050      Sheep – 11,500

Numbers fell this sale with lambs showing the decrease. Quality continues to be very mixed with a large percentage of the
yarding showing the effects of the continuing dry, though there were still some handy lines of finished lambs offered. Trade
weights made up the majority of the offering with heavy and extra heavy weight lamb numbers dwindling. The usual buyers
were present and competing in a cheaper market.
New season lambs declined $15 with trade weight lambs selling from $136 to $184/head. The few heavy pens sold from $178 to
$220/head. Carcase prices averaged 755c/kg cwt. Old lambs were $10 to $15 cheaper with light lambs selling from $126 to
$136/head. Trade weights received from $138 to $169/head. Heavy and extra heavy weights were limited in number and sold
from $160 to $213/head.
Mutton numbers were made up of mostly Merinos and quality was reduced from the previous sales. Prices decreased $14 to $18
with Merino ewes selling from $87 to $153/head. Crossbred ewes received from $84 to $143 and Dorper ewes sold from $73 to
$113/head. Merino wethers ranged in price from $88 to $133/head.
