FORBES SHEEP SALE MARKET REPORT 02/07/24

Numbers remained similar to last week with 27000 lambs penned. Quality was good with mainly heavy lambs penned and limited supply of light trade and store lambs. Competition for heavy lambs increased as did prices. All the regular buyers were present.

Lightweight processing lambs to 18kg gained $4, $72 to $131/head. Trade lambs 20kg to 24Kg were $3 dearer, $155 to $192 and heavy trades 24Kg to 26kg were $10 dearer, $190 to $218/head averaging 760c to 800c/kg. Heavy lambs also gained $10, lambs to 30kg sold from $215 to $245 and extra heavies, $234 to $286/head averaging between 770c and 810c/kg. Heavy hoggets reached $178/head.

There was 9250 mixed quality mutton yarded and prices remained firm. Merino ewes sold from $57 to $128 and crossbreds $66 to $160/head. Merino wethers sold from $110 to $140 and crossbreds $83 to $145/head. Heavy crossbred rams reached $68/head. Most sold between 340c and 370c/kg.
