FORBES SHEEP SALE MARKET REPORT 06/02/24

Numbers lifted slightly this sale with both lamb and mutton showing the change. Lamb quality was similar to that of previous sales with some handy lines of trad and heavyweights penned along with the secondary types. The usual buyers were present and competing in a firm to easier market with the secondary types most affected.

Trade weight lambs were $3 easier with the 20-24kg selling from $149 to $190/head. Heavy lambs to 26kg sold from $187 to $212/head while extra heavies held firm to range in price from $210 to $253/head. Carcase prices averaged from 730 to 785c/kg. The best heavy hoggets reached $150/head.

Mutton numbers were made up of mostly Merinos and quality was very mixed. Merino ewes sold from $58 to $118/head. Crossbreds received from $69 to $129 with Dorper ewes reaching $110/head. Merino wethers sold from $69 to $130/head.
