FORBES SHEEP SALE MARKET REPORT 13/02/24

Numbers lifted this sale with both lamb and mutton showing the change. There was 20800 lambs penned and quality continues to be very mixed with some handy runs of finished lambs offered along with the plainer secondary. The usual buyers were present and competing in a cheaper market.

Trade weight lambs fell $15 to $20 with secondary lambs the most affected. Prices ranged from $128 to $188/head. Heavy lambs to 26kg were also back $15 receiving from $172 to $193/hd. Extra heavyweights followed the similar trend to sell from $178 to $222/head. Carcase prices averaged from 660c to 703c/kg. The best heavy hoggets reached $120/head.

Mutton quality continues to be very mixed and prices slipped. Merino ewes sold from $49 to $94/head. Crossbreds received from $46 to $88 with Dorper ewes reaching $76/head. Merino wethers sold from $41 to $92/head.
