Forbes Sheep Sale Market Report 05/03/24

Total Yarding –19,850 Hd

Numbers fell this sale with agents yarding just under 20000 head. Lamb numbers remained steady with 16,000 penned. Quality continues to be very mixed with some good lines of finished trade and heavyweights lambs offer along with a large percentage of plainer secondary types. Most of the usual buyers were present and competing in an easier market.

Trade weight lambs were $4 to $8 easier with the 20-24kg selling from $123 to $158/head. Heavy lambs to 26kg eased $3 to $4 with prices ranging from $153 to $172/head. Extra heavyweights held fairly steady to receive from $163 to $221/head. Carcase prices averaged 610c to 650c/kg. The best heavy hoggets reached $137/head.

Mutton numbers showed the decrease with 3850 penned. Quality was similar to previous sales but prices lost last week’s gains. Merino ewes sold from $53 to $95, crossbreds received $47 to $98/head. Dorper ewes reached $88/head. The best heavy Merino wethers reached $98/head.
