Forbes Sheep Sale Market Report 19/03/24

Total Yarding –19,300Hd

Numbers lifted slightly this sale with both lamb and mutton showing the increase. There was 13500 lambs penned and quality was very mixed with some good lines of finished trade and heavyweights lambs penned along with the secondary types. Most of the usual buyers were present and competing in a firm to dearer market dependant on quality. 

Trade weight lambs held firm to sell from $120 to $158/head. Heavy lambs were $3 to $5 dearer particularly on the better types with prices ranging from $155 to $172/head. Extra heavyweight were also better to receive from $160 to $222/head.  Carcase prices averaged from 580 to 650c/kg. The best heavy Merino hoggets reached $120/head. 

Mutton quality was similar to that of previous sale and prices lifted. merino ewes sold from $45 to $115/head.  Crossbreds ranged in price from $45 to $108 with Dorper ewes reaching $83/head. Merino wethers sold from $58 to $98/head.
