Forbes Sheep Sale Market Report 12/03/24

Total Yarding –18,400 Hd

Numbers fell this sale with agents yarding 18400 head. Lambs showed the biggest change with 13300 penned. Quality continues to be very mixed with some better lines of trade and heavyweights along with the secondary types. The usual buyers were present and competing in a cheaper market.

Light lambs were the exception lifting $3 to sell from $106 to $123/head. Trade weight lambs 20- 24kg were back $3 to $6 to range in price from $121 to $155/head. Heavy and extra heavyweights were also easier. Heavies to 26kg sold from $138 to $166 and extra heavies ranging from $167 to $219/head. Carcase prices averaged from 586 to 630c/kg. The best heavy hoggets reached $137/head.

There was 5100 mutton penned with quality being very mixed. Prices held fairly steady with Merino ewes selling from $48 to $112/head. Crossbreds received from $50 to $104 with Dorper ewes reaching $78/head. Merino wethers sold from $63 to $86 /head. Merino ewes to restockers reached $70/head.
